The Dream Eater
A downloadable The Dream Eater for Windows
What's "The Dream Eater"?
The Dream Eater is a 6-day GameJam project developed by 5 second-year students in VideoGame Design & Development. The GameJam theme was "Dreams and Nightmares". We brainstormed for quite a long time to finally land in this idea of a hack and slash type game revolving around a kid that helps others fight their nightmares.
Everything in this game excluding a couple sounds is original. The models, animations, textures, shaders, code, and most of the sound effects (even those that are not ours were edited).
Subthemes:
- Surrealism
"Help me!"
Santiago will need to fight through the nightmare, fending off horrendous creatures, like Goblins, Spiders, Pesantas, and finally the horrendous Wendigo. He'll need to restore the balance to his dream by defeating all his fears and solving puzzles.
Enemies:
We wanted to represent some fears or struggles in our game via the dreams and their general meaning. The way we thought of representing this is through the enemies.
- Goblins
- Goblins are cruel creatures, normally, to dream of unfriendly goblins is a signal of distressing times.
- Spiders
- One of the most common fears, if one appears in your dreams, it's usually related with general anxiety or fear of the unknown.
- Pesanta
- Pesanta is a catalan folklore creature, it's a big dog that sits in his victim's chest while thy're asleep, suffocating them.
- Wendigo
- A Wendigo is a mythological moose-looking monster that appears in ones nightmare moments before being posessed.
